Zuni Knifewing Pin of Jet, Spiny Oyster, Turquoise, Jet and Mother of Pearl in Silver ca 1945
Here is a fine, old Zuni pin of a Knifewing God. It's handmade of mosaic inlay. The stones used were jet, natural turquoise of, most likely, Blue Gem, coral, and a tiny sliver of mother of pearl. While the piece only measures 1 7/16" x 1 5/16" it is set with a very well done complex inlay pattern with nice silver work accents.
On the reverse of the brooch are some etched trader's marks but it is unsigned, which is typical of the period.
We believe that the piece dates circa 1945. The piece is unsigned.
The pin comes from the gallery collection of renowned Santa Fe Native art dealer, collector and scholar Martha Hopkins Struever, who passed away in 2017.
Original Price $350.
