Vintage Silver and Turquoise Earrings Navajo Handmade
Vintage Silver and Turquoise Earrings Navajo Handmade
Here's the prettiest pair of handmade Navajo earrings of sterling silver set with fine turquoise stones. They're vintage earrings in a contemporary style with distinctive silver beads surrounding the large turquoise stones.
Since they're just shy of 2" long and 1" wide, the earrings elevate any day, any outfit as they frame your face in a sublime wash of blue. To be specific, there's 1.5" worth of turquoise on each ear. Delicious!
Notice the matrix in the turquoise, when you hold it to the light, parts of that matrix even sparkle. Oh yeah!
Here's a little story that makes the earrings even more interesting: because they're signed "G. Nez" on the reverse, they were originally purchased as the work of Gibson Nez, the late Navajo master silversmith whose work sells for thousands of dollars. They're not, in fact, made by Gibson Nez but a lessor known clearly talented Navajo jeweler who shares the last name. (Here's where knowledge of proper hallmarks is important as is a familiarity with the styles of different artists, for Navajo jewelry is diverse in design even if turquoise is the most often used stone and silver the predominant metal).Â
Because the collector of these earrings was specifically looking for the work of Gibson Nez and these are not, you get the opportunity to make these yours for more than a thousand dollars less than if they were Gibson's. You still get a dazzling pair of handmade Navajo earrings set with brilliant turquoise, and that's a win!
