This is an interesting silver kokopelli or flute player pendant because it's from a moment in time, the 1990's, when we experienced a significant crossover of this Native American design to a broader Southwestern audience. During that time, Kokopelli was depicted just about everywhere in New Mexico - from Navajo jewelry to roadside signs, tee shirts, key chains, coffee mugs, stickers and even stuffed animals. There must've been quite a demand for the charming flute player figure.Â
This large stylized Kokopelli pendant of silver was made by Christin Wolf, which was a popular Southwestern shop in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It's a bold and contemporary rendition of the flute player, curved and flowing.Â
Often mistaken for Native American jewelry, Christin Wolf pieces were created at an Anglo-owned shop, widely collected for their well-done Southwestern jewelry designs.
The pendant hangs beautifully on a separate silver Christin Wolf beaded necklace, and it will ship with a leather strap from which to hang.
Kokopelli measures 3 1/2" from top of bail to bottom of his dancing feet, and he's 2" wide.Â
Wear this unmistakable icon of an era to reconnect with the last decade that still felt analog in spirit, when reimagined ancient designs like Kokopelli captured our imagination without all the additional noise that was coming just around the corner.
