Vintage Orville Manygoats Figural Ring of Katsina
Vintage Orville Manygoats Figural Ring of Katsina
Navajo jeweler Orville Manygoats created a wearable sculpture of sterling silver with this handmade figural katsina (or kachina) ring.
The vintage silver ring is creative as can be and detailed too. Notice how Orville Manygoats used silver leaves to create the appearance of horns. He set two turquoise stones for eyes and an additional turquoise stone that looks like it's being held by the figure. The stone might represent a rattle.
You'll notice silver arms, legs and even feet. The legs look like they're clothed in trousers. The katsina is also wearing a traditional decorated kilt.
This charming ring measures 1 3/4" long and is a size 6 3/4. Signed on the reverse. From the collection of a German woman who acquired many of her pieces on Martha Struever's beloved Southwestern Native American art field trips.
