Vintage Northwest Coast Woven Basket Necklace
Vintage Northwest Coast Woven Basket Necklace
This necklace is as sweet as it is uncommon. It's a late addition to the clothing and wearable art website presentation.
A tiny handwoven basket that you wear as a necklace, it's a vintage piece, likely originating from the hands of an Indigenous artist along the Northwest Coast. It's similar to Haida berry baskets, but it looks more like a fish basket. It's woven with lightly waxed natural fiber.
This little necklace has wooden beaded and stone accents as well as a single hand carved animal fetish. It's from the private collection of Martha Struever and belonged to her for more than a decade.
Necklace hangs 16" long. Basket measures 1 1/8" plus 1" dangle. It's 1 1/4" wide including the side beads. It's just large enough to hold a teeny tiny folded up love note.
