Vintage Ken Taylor Pictorial Beaded Vest With Eagle Eastern Woodlands
Vintage Ken Taylor Pictorial Beaded Vest With Eagle Eastern Woodlands
When you're a Native American jewelry collector, you likely have an array of impressive jewelry to choose from, but what stand-out attire do you wear with that jewelry to life's big events?
How about a vintage hand-beaded vest like this dramatic eagle one. The vest was made in the 1990's by Ken Taylor, a Muscogee/Cherokee artist best known for his intricately beaded bandolier bags. You can read about those in this 2015 edition of First American Art Magazine.
This pictorial vest is fully beaded on the front and back with pearl and glass beads in vivid colors and outstanding eye-catching motifs including a large bald eagle head. The detail is just exquisite!
It was previously owned by an author/guest museum curator to a few black tie events. She first spotted it in the window of a Santa Fe gallery and knew immediately that she had to have it.
Just picture dressing up by wearing this over a simple long black dress or more casually with a nice pair of jeans. Either way, you'll make a big statement. Forget about wearing Gucci, this one-of-a-kind, piece of wearable art is where it's at.
The vest measures 19.5" across the front of the chest from arm hole to arm hole and 16.75" long in the back from top of neck to bottom of vest. In the front, it measures 19.24" from top of shoulder to bottom of longest point. It's signed Ken Taylor on the inside.
