When you live in Santa Fe, you're surrounded by beautiful Hispanic artwork. Much of it, like this hand painted retablo, is Spanish colonial and devotional in nature.
Despite being a renowned Native American art dealer, the late Martha Struever dedicated an entire room in her Santa Fe home to Spanish artwork, but this particular retablo only appeared at Christmas time on her tree.
It's an original piece hand painted on wood by Adam Romero, a New Mexican Santero from Espanola who shows at Spanish Market in Santa Fe. The retablo is entitled "The Holy Trinity" and depicts God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit descending as a dove. It's a striking piece.
Martha Struever's ornament was created in September of 1992 and is signed and dated by Adam Romero. It measures 5 1/2" x 4". That means it's large enough to stand out on a big Christmas tree or hang near the bottom of a smaller one. Of course, it's not just meant for Christmas. You can also hang it on a wall in your home for a little piece of Santa Fe every day.
