Vintage Custom Handmade Western Leather Jacket By Karen Bonnie
Vintage Custom Handmade Western Leather Jacket By Karen Bonnie
What do you wear when you want to rock a little western or cowboy vibe with your unmatched collection of Native American jewelry because you're a well-known matron of Native American art? If you're beloved art dealer and collector Martha Struever, Double D Ranch clothing won't quite do! Instead, you have special pieces of custom clothing made.Â
This vintage suede jacket is one of Marti's custom pieces. It's a wonderful western or cowboy style jacket. Not too little and not too much, the handmade jacket is black leather with a decorative overlay brown leather leaf design on the front and center back. Distinctive black piping completes the piece. The jacket is fully lined with pockets and a single button.
It was made by the Anglo American artist Karen Bonnie, a painter, photographer and creator of award-winning deerskin clothing that fuses western history, cowboy legend, and Native American culture. Now based in Colorado, Karen once owned a gallery in Abiquiu, New Mexico, the heart of Georgia O'Keefe Country.Â
Marti Struever's special jacket measures 23" across from under arm to under arm. The length is 30" from the top of shoulder to the bottom of the jacket, and the arm length is 23 1/2". Best of all, the jacket is signed inside the tag which reads "Karen Bonnie for Marti Struever." The jacket is also signed "Cody" which must be for the style of jacket.Â
