Vintage Brass Buckle Set With Red Jasper by Yazzie Johnson
This rare, notable buckle by Navajo great Yazzie Johnson dates circa 1978 and is in a style characteristic of his early work. So stylistically important is the buckle, in fact, that it is featured in the book Shared Images: The Innovative Jewelry of Yazzie Johnson and Gail Bird.
The piece comes from the private collection of Native American art dealer, Martha Struever, who was also a close friend of Yazzie Johnson and Gail Bird.
It measures 3" and fits a 1 1/2" belt. The piece has an etched signature "Yazzie Johnson" on the reverse.
