Soul Concepts of The Navajo by Berard Haile, O.F.M.
This is interesting reading for anyone interested in Navajo religious and moral beliefs as well as their attitude toward nature. It's written by Farther Berard, Bishop of Gallup Diocese in New Mexico who was called "The Little Man Who Knows All" by his adopted people, the Navajo.Â
In 1900 he had been asigned to the Navajo missions. He spent much of his life learning the derivation and etymology of every word in the Navajo spoken language. Over many years, he also studied the "customs, ceremonials, superstitions and thought-processes" of the Navajo which he used to write this short work.Â
