This magnificent Philander Begay necklace will give you more than four different jaw dropping looks for the price of one!
Navajo master jeweler Philander Begay's centerpiece is a fantastic tufa cast silver pendant that's reversible. One side is a graphic rendition of a mudhead (koyemsi) katsina set with luscious red coral. The other side is a lovely pueblo scene complete with snow capped mountains and a turquoise moon.Â
Keep in mind that because this pendant is tufa cast, Philander Begay etched these artistic compositions directly into soft tufa stone to create a mold. He then poured molten silver into the etched tufa mold so that it would harden with these lovely designs in relief. The traditional process is laborious and requires both precision and artistry. There's lots of room for error, but clearly Philander Begay's one-of-a-kind casting came out exceptional.
The large 3 3/8" x 1 7/8" pendant hangs from lovely handmade sterling silver beads that measure 20 1/4" from end to end. Even the bail is tufa cast and decorated with a mudhead. So good!
Here are the different looks you can create with this one singular handmade piece:
- striking mudhead with coral on silver beads
- Â calming wintery pueblo scene with turquoise on silver beads
- silver beads worn alone
- silver beads with your own large pendant
- silver beads with your other large pendant
- mudhead pendant on long leather strapÂ
- etc. etc. etc.
