Clarence and Russell Lee Silver Thimble of Truck
Clarence and Russell Lee Silver Thimble of Truck
This charming silver thimble is rare and delightful. It's by beloved Navajo father and son jewelry-making team Clarence and Russell Lee.
The vintage sterling silver thimble is heavy weight, and it depicts one of Clarence & Russell's famous trucks racing through the Navajo Nation with a long-haired man in traditional dress running behind. One little thimble conjures an entire story. Is this a fire truck speeding off to fight a fire? Is it a construction or utility truck? What do you think?
The thimble comes from the private collection of Martha Hopkins Struever, the well-known Native American art dealer and scholar. Marti loved whimsical Native American art, and she also enjoyed sewing and needlepoint. This piece combined two of her passions at once.
The thimble is 1 1/8" tall with a 3/4" bottom diameter. It's etched on the inside Russell Lee with the Clarence and Russell hallmark and stamped Sterling.
