Rarely, Turquoise & Tufa receives piece that is not Native American made but still has a connection to Native art and jewelry. Such is the case with this colorful roll on bracelet by beloved Santa Fe jeweler Bruce Eckhardt.

Eckhardt studied painting at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe and wound up particularly inspired by the stone sculpture of Alan Hauser. Through working in Hauser's studio, Eckhardt discovered that he loved stones. He eventually learned to hand roll beads from Charles Lovato at Kewa Pueblo.

Eckhardt's jewelry combines a passion for the vivid colors of painting with his appreciation for fine natural stones. You can see this combination clearly with this particular multi-stone bracelet "painted" in the shades of the high desert.

In this bracelet, you'll find a colorful mix of hand shaped stones including turquoise from at least 6 different mines, red & purple spiny oyster, variscite, lapis, and even opal. The round beads are carefully graduated ending in a larger tubular bead.

It's rare to find Eckhardt's beaded bracelets. Perhaps you'd like to make this yours and discover the magic of his beads.

Eckhardt's bracelet is on string, but it's without the stretch of elastic, so it does need to roll onto your wrist. The inside diameter of the bracelet is 6 5/8". Unsigned. From a private collection.
