About This Book:

If you know me at all, you probably know that I often encourage collectors of Native American art to look beyond the art itself and take the time to learn about the people, their history, and their culture. Learning these things makes the objects that you collect so much more meaningful.

This book provides a wonderful opportunity to learn. Originally published in 1947, the book is a study by anthropologist William Whitman who observed life at San Ildefonso Pueblo during the 1930s. He teaches about family and community, relationships, ceremonies, traditions, and the changes taking place within the Pueblo at that time. It's an interesting look at San Ildefonso history and culture from an outside observer during a snapshot in time.
