Have you ever seen a "Navajo Neck Tie" before? You may not have because they're rare. The fabulous design originated with Navajo jeweler Billy Betoney and his wife Betty.

The turquoise and silver necktie is completely unique - not quite a bolo, not quite a pin, and definitely not a necklace although it sands out just as much as one of those other jewelry pieces. You don't even have to have any special skills to adorn this neck tie - you simply slip the silver hook over your shirt and then pin for extra security.

Interestingly, it was Betty Betoney who taught her husband how to silversmith in the 1970's. She said teaching Billy how to create jewelry helped her heal from pain of losing her mother, which is such a beautiful method of moving through grief.

Do you notice the silver motifs in this neck tie? They represent the rug designs of Billy's mother. How special is that?

The very first time that Billy Betoney showed at Santa Fe Indian Market in 1989, he won "Most Creative Design - Any Class." You can see why with this turquoise and silver Navajo neck tie.

There aren't very many of these around, so you'll certainly be the only one wearing this cool piece of wearable art that comes directly from the beautiful imagination of Navajo artists.

The Betoney's turquoise tie is smaller than a traditional silk necktie, but it's much more impressive. It measures 6 1/4" long x 2" wide. It's signed on the reverse.

I've only handled one other in all my years selling fine Native American art. Once this one goes, I may never have another.
