You'll fall hard for this stunning old Pueblo necklace of inlaid turquoise on a spiny oyster shell. The mosaic inlay turquoise is beautifully done, and the shell is a rich red rather than orange.
When it initially arrived here, it was just an inlaid shell with holes drilled on either side so that it could be worn as a pendant. I combined it with a single strand of vintage pen shell heishi that Martha Struever kept on hand for such an occasion, and voila, a fantastic necklace with loads of soul (and show).
The mosaic inlaid shell measures 2 3/4" x 2 5/8" and the single strand heishi necklace measures 26 1/4" from end to end. It's finished with a single coral bead, two sterling silver beads and a handmade sterling silver hook and eye closure. On the reverse of the shell, someone has written Zuni, so this one is likely Zuni handmade rather than Kewa. It's from the collection of an elderly woman from New Jersey.
