Vintage Navajo Silver Belt With Animal Conchos By Wilbur Wauneka

Even after my years of handling many amazing pieces, there are still some so enchanting that it's hard to actually sell them and watch them go. This is one such piece!

It's almost impossible not to fall madly in love with each of the animals on this incredible concho belt by Navajo artist Wilbur Wauneka. The large vintage belt is like a series of wildlife paintings with silver as Wauneka's medium. 

Each realistic concho "painting" depicts a different animal that you'd find in the American West. There are 7 conchos plus a buckle, and you'll find a mountain lion, an owl, a bear, a moose, an eagle, an elk, a beaver, and a coyote. 

It's amazing how beautifully Wilbur Wauneka was able to capture the individual spirit of each animal. There is so much detail on every animal. Different stamps represent fur and wings and antlers. There are even hand-stamped backdrops of trees and mountains and rivers. You wouldn't necessarily know that this was a Navajo made piece except for the intricate stamped silver border around each animal depiction. Individually, these animal conchos are impressive. All together as a belt, they're just magnificent!

These marvelous beings are each on a large silver canvas that measures 3" long x 2 5/8" wide.

The belt isn't just charming, it looks fantastic on! Wear it with a black dress or a pair of jeans. The conchos probably won't fit in your belt loops, but that's okay. This is meant to shine not to go underneath those loops.

This belt is one you'll hand down as a family heirloom. It's the type jewelry that children and grandchildren will find wondrous. There's no end to the stories that imaginations big and small can envision with this charming Navajo masterpiece.

The belt strap is black leather, and it measures 41 1/2" long x 2" wide. Each concho is attached with copper slides. Hallmarked on the buckle.
