This is the prettiest vintage pin/pendant of an inlay coral cardinal bird framed in a very special border of natural turquoise teardrop stones.
You might think this is a Zuni piece due to the channel inlay, but it's actually done by a Navajo jeweler, Leo G. Harvey who is known for this style of jewelry.
Interestingly, the detailed and joyful red coral cardinal is inlaid in silver rather shell. He's sitting on a beautiful tree branch that is inlaid with mother of pearl leaves and teeny red coral berries. Such a lovely and intricate depiction of the natural world! Twenty eight little natural turquoise stones are lightly variegated in color thanks to the hands of time. They form a distinctively Southwestern frame around the bird "painting."Â
It's created to be worn as a pin or a pendant. As a large pendant worn from a heavy gauge handmade Navajo chain, it shines the brightest. You can pair it with turquoise cluster earrings, and you've got an incredible combination.
Leo G. Harvey's pin/pendant is hallmarked on the reverse. It measures 2 1/2" x 2 1/4". There aren't a whole lot of these around - I've never had another, so grab it while you can. It attaches to chains and beads with a shepherd's hook.
