Vintage Turquoise Ring by Lorenzo Tortalita of Kewa Or Santo Domingo Pueblo
Vintage Turquoise Ring by Lorenzo Tortalita of Kewa Or Santo Domingo Pueblo
This vintage turquoise ring is everything a great Native American ring should be. It was handmade by award-winning jeweler Lorenzo Tortalita of Kewa or Santo Domingo Pueblo who lived from 1925-1998. Lorenzo Tortalita's greatest award was First Place at the 1970 Santa Fe Indian Market.
His ring's silver work is simple but elegant, and the natural turquoise stone is standout in its uniqueness - brilliantly glassy blue with a dark matrix that looks as if it's been hand-drawn. You can see that stone has been touched by the hands of time as the turquoise has areas of slight but expressive color changes. There's also a tiny and secure hairline crack in the stone.
It's evidence of the transformation time brings with it. This ring was once shiny, new and flawless, but it has traded those characteristics for soul instead.Â
Like those who have worn it before you, it'll sing to you every time you slip it onto your finger.
It's a size 8 1/2, but it can be sized to fit. Signed on the reverse with Tortalita's hallmark.
