Vintage Norbert Peshlakai Pin/Pendant Of Sapphire and Coral
Vintage Norbert Peshlakai Pin/Pendant Of Sapphire and Coral
The renowned Native American art dealer Martha Hopkins Struever once wrote, "Norbert Peshlakai grew up in a traditional Navajo family in historic Crystal, New Mexico, yet his work is far from traditional (and) his designs are always surprising."
Looking at this vintage pin/pendant by Norbert Peshlakai, you can see exactly why Marti Struever wrote what she did about Norbert, an artist she absolutely adored.Â
This pin is small but impressive with its highly contemporary design. Atop a series of connected bars of differing lengths and widths, gold and silver, Norbert Peshlakai has set a single sparkling sapphire gemstone in a traditional bezel setting. The pin/pendant is wholly unique, completely eye catching and a total departure from what we assume Navajo jewelry to be.Â
The pin was so impressive to Martha Struever, in fact, that she featured it in her 1983 show of Norbert Peshlakai's work.
Can you believe it's almost 40 years old? This is the type of jewelry that's representative of Norbert Peshlakai at his very best and there's not another one like in in the entire world!Â
It measures 1 1/2" x 1 1/8". Hallmarked.
