A pair like these early Zuni dangle earrings of rough, hand-cut turquoise and white shell only comes around once in a blue moon. The rare earrings are rugged and unrefined while at the same time transcendent and sublime. The epitome of the descriptor "one-of-a-kind" you can rest assured these meaningful earrings won't show up on anyone else's ears.

Of course, they come from the private collection of Martha Hopkins Struever, Native American art dealer, collector and scholar. If you didn't know Marti during her remarkable lifetime, just know this: she was in the Native art business for almost half of a century and she was known for her impeccable taste. It stands to reason, then, that these fabulous earrings belonged to her.

The earrings do come with a disclaimer: You MUST be able to wear bold and heavier earrings. Like many historic Navajo and Pueblo earrings, they're not made for overly sensitive ears. They're made for the kind of ears that can proudly wear the early bold and heavier dangles.

These perfect earrings measure 2 1/4" long x 7/8" wide and they come with all of the soul of a piece of handmade history. They're unsigned on the reverse, which is typical of the time period.

For a great book on early Native American earrings, check out Bob Bauver's book on Navajo and Pueblo earrings 1850-1945. We just die every time we look at the images in it! These earrings here are of that quality!
