For Navajo people, the dragonfly represents water, a critical component of life in the arid American Southwest. Perry Shorty's portrayal of this meaningful symbol is reverent and exceptional. That's why it is one of the pieces that remained in Martha Struever's private collection from the date she acquired it in the year 2000 until her passing in 2017.
